In the 15th and 16th century, silver tableware was made from silver coins, since the U. S. didn't have any silver mines at the time. The coins were melted down, shaped, and hammered to their final form (the final product was called "coin silver", and it's still collected today). Lafayette is a beautiful rendition of the hand-hammered flatware of the colonial period. Made in a shiny finish, in a heavy weight. It's currently the only 'teardrop' handle shape available in the hammered style. The hammered finish also appears on the reverse side.
